March 2025
With signs of Spring welcome here at Muckle HQ, our enthusiasm gets a boost and are booking the 2025 summer and Christmas events. Another busy year is now inked in the diary and the brewing programme is pretty full.
🚚 Deliveries 🚚
We enjoyed a delivery day drive along by the Northumberland beaches, dropping off Muckles as we went, and culminating on Holy Island with casks of Muckle Tickle for the Crown & Anchor pub. The beach was amazing and we had it all to ourselves.
Then on to Lowick Village Store for welcome supplies of delicious homemade quiche, cakes and sandwiches. Lynsey who owns the store gets up at 4am to start baking and really does deserve to win a Rural Oscar at the Countryside Alliance Awards this year, for which voting is now open.
We love our drive home along the military road running parallel with Hadrian’s Wall, and called in to deliver to Herding Hill Farm touring, camping & glamping site which is a super location near the Wall, high above Haltwhistle.
Markets
With Farmers’ Markets now keeping us busy at Hexham, Greenhead, Brampton, Carlisle and Barnard Castle, plus Jesmond Food Market, we hope you have an opportunity to call by and chat beer.
On-line we now have free P&P, so if you can’t manage to make it to our markets or stockists then use voucher code muckle10 to get 10% off the price of beers as well as free P&P.
Those of you lucky enough to be regulars of the super Hexham Farmers’ Market will perhaps be aware that maintenance work is planned in the Market Square and Shambles from March until August, but don’t worry the Market will still go ahead as usual (2nd and 4th Saturdays) and you’ll see us all on the Abbey flags North, East and South of the Abbey.
🌱 Compost 🌱
The gardeners amongst you may well recognise the value of spent hops for composting. We’ve been sending ours to a charity garden just outside of Hexham, and also composting for ourselves so have now topped up our raised beds with our own compost – to be fair it’s less a rich loam and more sludgy but that’s a lack of care on our part and not a fault of the ingredients!
Our hens still enjoy a lovely breakfast of warm brewers grains on brew days though sadly this no longer translates into eggs due to the great ages of the girls!
