August 2025

Welcome to our August Newsletter!

In The Brewery

It’s holiday month for many, and beer is busy!

We started the month with the Council’s annual Environmental Health Assessment and were delighted to keep our 5-star rating. The brewery may be small, but it’s always super clean.

Muckle Bari brown ale is back, tasting delicious and available from local Farmers’ Markets, Stockists and our on-line shop. Despite being the busiest month of the summer we’re planning for Autumn with Muckle Berry brewed and now bottled. This delicious red winter ale will be available from the end of August, and with just the one brew per year we expect it to have been sold out before December.

The Crown and Anchor pub on Holy Island took delivery of six casks of Whin Sill Blonde at the end of July so if you’re visiting North Northumberland we hope the tide is right for you to pop across the causeway to The Island.

Events

The amazing locations of Brancepeth Castle and Blanchland Village hosted fun events during the last month. With quaint chocolate-box cottages (Blanchland) and Saxon Castle (Brancepeth), they really are worth a visit.

If you enjoy a day out then August and September are the months to visit some super agricultural shows, big and small, in Northumberland, County Durham and Cumbria. The small but beautiful Weardale Show is super for families; with free entrance for children and no charge for all their activities. Please check our events list below.

At the Castle, the filming for a Channel 4 production about historic buildings included a moment when they caught on film Nicola in combat with the recalcitrant Muckle gazebo! Let’s hope that’s an out-take.

In The Muckle Garden

You may recall photos earlier in the year of our fledgling tomato plants in repurposed old casks. They have worked! We are now the proud owners of lots of lovely yellow sweet tomatoes along with casks of aubergine, peppers and cucumbers.Amazing!

Muckle On Tour

Muckle tours took us camping in the Breamish Valley where head brewer Tom happily cooled off in the peaty Breamish river following a tough day in the hills.

With Glendale Show to enjoy on Bank Holiday Monday there’ll be another opportunity to pop to Ingram for more peaty immersion.
